Research & Advisory Roles
My background in Social Anthropology (University of St Andrews, 2016-2020) informs my interest in qualitative, fieldwork-based research. This skillset was further refined and combined with a special focus on the arts by the MA Text and Performance taught by Birkbeck and RADA. Below is a list of research and advisory roles that I have undertaken recently in the creative industries.
I joined a team of 6 diverse, freelance researchers from the Young Barbican network to research the impact and outreach of their Creative Careers programme and to deliver a set of recommendations for the future to Barbican leadership. My research focussed on understanding existing structural and funding constraints to ground my recommendation towards centring young people in the Barbican's offer through the Creative Careers programme.
In 2021 I joined Boundless Theatre's Advisory Group alonsgide a team of young creatives between the ages of 15 and 25. Here, I have participated in discussions about the future of the company and learnt more about the way in which Boundless works with artists and communities.
The Laidlaw Scholarship is a competitive two-year programme developing research and leadership skills. I designed a project on theatre and ritual, which I explored through fieldwork at the Edinburgh Fringe (2018) and in Japan (2019), where I researched Kabuki theatre. Through the Scholarship I learnt how to design a project, structure a fieldwork trip and be a leader in academic research.
